While I'm Closing In
OK, last paper was finally over less than 3 hours ago, and I'm writing
my last post here as a undergrad (the next time i write anything, it
would be after my presentation).

To conclude, having a last paper that is open book & MCQ, it really
kills the tension.

How bad? This bad:

- went club on last Thurs

- drink something that is 58% alcohol, and go on for more beer on top
of the lawn of School of Arts, Design & Media till 3am

- sent off 2 Japanese friends, and get to exchange number with a new
one, who is doing intern here till July

And NOW (writing this post on my phone), cursing in my heart at those
kids who had their 2nd or 3rd free cone while q-ing for my 1st at Ben
& Jerry's while waiting for my Scottish-Chinese friend to have her
haircut, and do not want me see her in bad hair.

Honestly, as compare to some of those in Taiwan, what I do one last
time crazily before I grad, this is really chicken feet:

- to try every single store of stew meat rice is Taipei

- to produce a concept theraputic music CD for depression

- to hack into the school network, and change the status to
"Graduated" on the school record

Foolish? Definately. Nonsensecial? Can't be worse. But who cares? The
real world is ahead, and that is a world that have no room for dumb
acts.

So, what's next?

What is the Media doing?

Last corner of the F1 race I call exam, and I really want to spend a moment on the Tibet issue.

The root to this issue still revolves around the age old conflict of the East and West, the general understanding between the common people of both major culture group around the world.

The culprit? Media.

When CNN, BBC, etc reported the event of Tibet riot, they took picture from Nepal's unrest. One of the most blatant photo is the following:

untitled

What do you see? A white vehicle, and army personal. Do you associate it with 'armoured' vehicle? This is exactly what the Western media had reported to their people.

Blame the different military practice if you want, too, if you think the media is always right.

The thing is, the people take it as it is, and it had been like this for 10's of years since the media had so-called open the eyes of the world. But have it really done so? Or have it just shield use from what the world is really like?

I can bet most of the pro-Tibet supporter in the West will curse and swear at this picture, cursing how evil the Chinese army was, just because they do not know that even medical personal in army wears a camo uniform, and the ambulance is of a different colour from theirs.

Who is right and wrong, I can't really be the judge. While people are readily motivated to the street, I could also hear Tibetan who have higher GDP than the farming village by selling yak's product, or making it big, bigger than most Han-Chinese singer, by having Avex Trax as background, over in Japan, in the case of alan.

Like what my Iranian visitor told me, there are anti-American extremist in Iran, but there are like himself, and also the majority, those who can and are embracing the worldly culture. Just that the media like to tell bad news.

But who really is the real culprit? I will say is the gap of progress between the 2 worlds.

While the better half of the West are facing affluent related problem, the East is facing growth problem, and why Tibet is always the centre of attraction could be well related to this.

The thing is, Tibet have always been viewed as a place of mystery, very much related to the ideal of Shangari-La, the land of perfect, the land of pure thought. Yes, it was in a way, that is because their life was in poverty, and they could not do much to ask for more. But with the exposure to the outside world, especially in the recent years, with the chance to see how the other side of the world is living, and feeling in a way they should catch up, they let down the pure hearts of theirs, and pursue the Western ideal.

And when this happen, the West blame China for opening up their holy ground by building railway. But why they don't look back as to what they brought along when they flock to the place for travel?

In essence, a lot of problem will occur when people of different stage of economic and social development clash. What the media should have done, is suppose to level the difference, but I guess, that is just too ideal.

In the mean time, pray hard for a smooth sailing Olympic (so not as to fulfil some crazy pessimistic prediction), as well as the final corner of the ultra fast race of my campus life that is coming to an end soon.

Are You Sure This Is Not an April Fool Joke?

Check my school e-mail just now, and I received the following letter from the school: (the bold + bracket words are my comment)

1 April 2008

To: Staff and Students

OPENING OF EATERY OUTLETS AT NEW ADMIN CLUSTER BUILDING

With the completion of the new Admin Cluster building next to LT 1A, we are pleased to inform you that the following eatery outlets will be operational progressively from 7 April 2008 (WTF...) onwards:

Level 1 (Car Park A level, connected to Car Park A near the 7-Eleven convenience store)

Fast Food

McDonalds (Not my concern)

Subway (WOW!!!)

Canadian Pizza (Hope it is not too ex)

Old Chang Kee (Must refrain going there too often...)

Cafs

Sakae Sushi (Embarrassment when I bring Japan student there)

The Palette (Western Food) (Hope it is good)

Level 2 (accessible from LT1 at Plaza level, and interconnected with Level 1)

Food Connection (Food Court) (Will be essential)

Executive Caf (Do they sell booze?)

The brand new cafs, food court and fast food chains will offer a wide variety of food, pleasant dining experience in a conducive environment with seating capacity about twice (Are you sure?) of that in the current Canteen A.

All food stalls at the current Canteen A will cease operation by 30 April 2008 (OH NO!!!). As the development of Lee Wee Nam Library Expansion Project has been deferred by 2 years due to the overheated construction market, the existing well-lit and ventilated seating area will be converted to interim reading space or for other flexible use.

To be frank, I have never thought I will be having a chance to enter the new food court/canteen building before I finish my life in NTU. I have always joked "hey, let's go there for a mail after our convocation?". Never did I expected it to start operation this fast.

And the biggest surprise? It is announced on April Fool... Let's just hope this is not an April Fool Joke after all...
