I Have a Thing for Other's Choice

You know what, every time I chance upon someone whom I think suit me, it always ended to be someone else's special someone.

It happened once during NS, it happened again during my internship in Beijing, and so was it during my final year. And up to this point of life, it is still happening this way.

What is the fucking wrong with me? Why am I aiming on all the wrong things, especially other's things when coming something that should be so close to my heart, a matter that will decide the fate of the rest of my life.

Crushing

My life in NTU would not have been so interesting, if not that I've got into a school club that I can truly enjoy and showcase my talent. But that is not going to happen for the case of sai lou.

Under the new hostel allocation system, being executive members in a lot of minor school clubs will not be able to stay in hall. In another words, it really make no point joining non-hall related, non-school related, non-so-called-serving-the-student-bodies club in NTU anymore.

For some god knows why reason, the school decide to degrade a lot of foreign cultural school club who have 4 times more paying members than any of those sports club, just because sports club may just win some medal for the school.

FUCK YOU, when did I see that happening for muay-thai club, wakeboarding club, etc, etc.

School clubs is a place to train future leaders, to equip them with qualities of greater goods under a more protected environment. It is not a place to pamper brats who will splash water 4 am in the night, or to get a room in hall and proudly say that they got it through some connection.

All and all, thank you NTU for making such decision, for I think the people on top are just as pok gai as those who are leading the Class One clubs such as Hall Club these days. Thank you for making NTU a place that really sucks in school culture.

Not Quite Close

First day of work, still in a stage of familiarisation with my working environment, seeing things people won't normally see each day, or some time never get to see it in their life-time.

All the heat, all the molten metal, and exploding metals, this is the closest thing you can get for a volcano, in the comfort of an air-conditioned controlled room.

My senior in the company call it the perk of working in this line, I say this is the reason I want to study engineering.

Nothing quite close to the sort of things or what I had imagined, but I am defiantly glad it was not quite close.

Brand X Loyalty

I was shopping with my Japanese friends whom I met 2 years ago, and here again for exchange, at Mustaffa yesterday. They wanted to visit Little India, mostly for Cheese Prata.

At the 24-hr department store, they were searching for a small alarm clock. A few brand were there, the usual Japanese brands, and some never before heard about fake Japanese brand.

The important thing is that, the usual suspects were slightly more expensive then the bo mia brands.

But guess what they bought in the end: the Japanese brand.

I was not quite surprised about that. Japanese have always been a patriotic race, and their loyalty to their home brands is well-known. But I must say, even I will be willing to spend a little more on something that will last, instead of buying another halfway through using it again.

The important question comes: when will Singapore local brands get such treatment?

We do have a few home brand that is making big around the world, but it never really occurs to us when we buy anything. One example is digital music players, have it occur to you to buy a Zen from Creative instead of an Apple's iPod?

I really is a matter of nationhood crossed with the product prominence of our local industry. For a 43 year old nation, i just fear it may take another 43 years more to establish it.
